Advice and Guidance

Some people prefer to do their own gardening but are a bit intimated by overgrown shrubs or a triffid like Wisteria or simply by their lack of knowledge, I’m happy to advise and work with you, explaining and showing you what you need to do with “Get to know your garden” sessions.

  • I can help you learn the “mystic” art of pruning; what you can prune, how much and when to prune it. Many overgrown plants can be cut back extremely hard, giving them a new lease of life and will come back with a vengeance; on the other hand some need to be pruned much more sympathetically.
  • Pruning at the right time of the year is very important, many a time I’ve heard “ Oh, I didn’t realise it flowered!” or it pains me to say, witnessed people cutting the flower buds off a plant.
  • If your borders are getting a little crowded, maybe it’s time to lift some of the plants and split them, they’ll thank you for it; plus you get free plants or you can give them to friends.
  • Not in need of a full redesign, just need help jiggling things around a bit and introducing a few new plants, I’m here to help.
  • Unfortunately it’s not just us humans that enjoy plants, many pests and disease enjoy them too, I can spot and advise on control whether by  cultivation, organic methods or pesticides.
  • It can be very satisfying propagating your own plants from cuttings and seeds; over the years I have taught many people propagation skills including budding and grafting.
